As soon as we enter the park, the game drive begins, offering your first opportunities to frame its remarkable wildlife and landscapes through your lens. Day 2: The day begins with a morning game drive, perfect for golden hour photography, as soft light highlights the detailed textures of the landscape and wildlife.
In the afternoon, a boat cruise (seasonal, depending on water levels) offers a fresh perspective, allowing you to capture reflections on serene waterways, intimate scenes of waterbirds, and the vibrant life of the Delta. If the cruise isn’t possible, an alternate game drive ensures no shortage of stunning photo opportunities. With numerous bird species and diverse wildlife, you’ll have endless subjects to shoot.
Discovering the Wonders of Khwai (Northeastern Okavango Delta)
Day 3: After a morning game drive in Southern Moremi, we journey to the water-rich Khwai region, renowned for its stunning floodplains and abundant wildlife. As we traverse this beautiful landscape, keep your camera ready for herds of zebra, giraffe, and antelope grazing against the backdrop of winding waterways. By evening, we settle into our new camp, surrounded by the calls of the wild and a perfect setting to review the day’s photos.
Day 4: The morning begins with an exciting game drive in this predator-rich area, where lions, leopards, and African wild dogs are frequently sighted. The adventure continues in the afternoon with another thrilling game drive, exploring the diverse habitats and searching for the perfect photographic moments. With its expansive floodplains and abundant wildlife, Khwai region offers endless opportunities to frame dramatic and intimate scenes of the African wilderness.
Day 5: Start the final day in Khwai region with a morning game drive. The open floodplains provide perfect lighting and expansive views for wildlife photography. You’ll have ample opportunities to photograph iconic species like elephants, giraffes, and hippos.
In the afternoon, the adventure takes to the skies with a breathtaking 30-minute helicopter flight. With the doors removed, you’ll have an unobstructed view of the Khwai region’s diverse landscapes. From above, capture the contrast between the dry mopane woodlands and the shimmering waterways. Elephant and hippo trails, winding channels, and islands form a stunning mosaic of nature, offering unparalleled aerial photography opportunities – an absolute highlight of the trip.
Iconic Wildlife and Captivating Landscapes in Savute
Day 6: After a morning game drive in Khwai, we head northeast to the untamed Savute region (part of the Chobe National Park). Upon arrival, an afternoon game drive introduces you to Savute’s legendary wildlife. Keep your camera ready for herds of elephants, prowling predators, and dramatic desert landscapes, all bathed in the golden hues of the late afternoon light. By evening, our camp provides a peaceful retreat to reflect on the day’s adventures.
Days 7–8: Savute is a photographer’s dream, offering two full days of morning and afternoon game drives. From the vast open savannas to rocky outcrops, this area presents stunning backdrops for capturing Botswana’s wild beauty. Prides of lions lounge in the sun, while hyenas fight over scarce water sources. Zebra herds, giraffes, and antelope roam the dry plains, and raptors soar above – perfect for action shots and dramatic wildlife photography. In addition to its wildlife, Savute is also home to ancient rock paintings. These fascinating cultural sites provide insight into the history of the region’s early inhabitants and add an extra layer of intrigue to your exploration of this wild area.
Did you know: Savute is the setting of the celebrated National Geographic Wild documentary Savage Kingdom. This incredible series showcases the fierce battles between the region’s apex predators, and you may witness similar dramatic interactions firsthand.
Day 9: A final morning game drive provides one last opportunity to capture Savute’s spectacular wildlife before we bring you to the Savute airstrip. From here, you’ll take a transfer flight back to Maun, offering aerial views of the expansive wilderness you’ve explored.
